Cuenca is a very distinct city. A very interesting mix can be found here. Home to the Museum of Abstract Art, it is special in that alone. But the fun doesn’t stop there! The city is built on two different levels, half of it is at the foot of a mountain and the other half crawls up the mountainside, and some houses are even hanging off the face of the mountain. It is a pretty interesting thing to see. Let’s start with some shots of Cuenca and the view.

Pretty isn’t it! The “casa colgante” that you see there is actually the Abstract Art Museum, which is a very interesting place to visit. You can say that I am a bit of a fan of abstract art now…hehe. Here are some of my favorite pieces that I was able to take pictures of…

There was a lot of neat stuff in there and also a lot of stuff that I didn’t understand at all! Still, should be interesting to see what everyone else sees in these pieces of art.
Next on the Cuenca day trip, was a trip to see la Ciudad Encantada, or the Enchanted City. This is a whole area where erosion and time have shaped the rocks in a very sweet way. You can walk around this entire place that is really big and just explore and feel like your favorite action archaeologist, Indiana Jones!

Then right before we hopped on the bus to go back to Alcalá, my friend Ash and I were sitting on the edge of a well. All was well until Ash started trying to push me into the well! Well I grabbed her and brought her along for the possible fall. No way I was going down there alone!! Luckily, our friend Brittney was there with her camera and took a picture at just the right time!

This isn’t staged at all…
Ok and now my host family!! It is about time y’all got to meet them. They are a wonderful family and I am so lucky to be staying with them…

From the left, you got Luis Mi (dad), Luis Mi (son), Isabel (mom), Laura (Luis Mi’s wife), and Maribel kneeling down. Luis Mi, which is short for Luis Miguel if you hadn’t figured that out yet, and his wife, Laura, just left for Japan last week for 2 years. They are working for a university in Kobe, Japan. Maribel just finished her master’s work in Belfast, Ireland and is working there for one more month and will be back for good at the end of October. So there you go!
Again, this weekend again is El Escorial, which I have heard is really, REALLY nice. I guess I’ll let you know on Monday. Ciao!
